The Kushiro region is a treasure trove of wetlands known for their stunning scenery.
Some wetland features such as rivers and lakes have long been integral parts of people’s lives, while other wetland areas were previously considered unfit for reclamation and therefore seen as useless. However, these have recently come to be appreciated more for the unique gifts and splendid natural environments they provide.
KIWC arranges lectures, tours, environmental surveys and various other events to communicate the appeal and significance of wetlands to a wide range of age groups. These efforts are intended to promote the wise use of wetlands - a concept by which all wetlands are treated as valuable local assets whose blessings are used to enrich people’s lives and passed on to future generations.
